Only the Edge platform incorporates this form
of advanced routing technology. When deployed in a multilink
environment, this technology can increase application responsiveness,
ensure application persistence for long downloads and provide
unique graphical feedback for monitoring Service Level Agreements
(SLA's) with your telecommunication providers.
The
Edge appliance is able to ensure that remote resources are always
accessible via the most responsive path available. This process
ensures faster connectivity and greater productivity.
Using this patent-pending method to constantly monitor critically
defined remote networks the Edge appliance can make modifications
to its own routing table in real-time to redirect traffic out
the most favorable WAN link.
By doing this the Edge appliance delivers overall lower latency
and responsive times for critical applications like VoIP, Citrix,
CRM and ERP.
How Does It Work:
By performing continuous testing through each available WAN
link to the defined remote network, the Best Path Routing module
is able to determine which links provide the best possible connectivity.
This testing consists of:
- Latency Metric
- Packet Loss Metric
- Jitter Metric
When combined a complete picture of the WAN
link is determined so that the best route can be updated in
the routing table.
This testing is continuously being performed in order to
always make sure that the "BEST" path is being used.
Additionally, alerts levels may also be set by the IT administrator
in order to email them in the event a link is performing at
unacceptable levels, this feature can also be used to guarantee
SLA levels for a particular connection.
By monitoring multiple paths to a critical
destination the Edge platform is able to determine which path
provides the fastest connection and thus updates its routing
table accordingly.
